Karen Wylie, AHG Executive Director

Dr. Karen Wylie, MEd, EdD, CAHP

Animal Hospice Group Executive Director

Executive Director Profile

Dr. Karen Wylie brings experience in adult education, human development counseling and organizational learning to her role as Executive Director of the Animal Hospice Group (AHG). Her early career focused on helping healthcare professionals navigate the complex cultural shifts that followed hospital mergers and acquisitions—experience that now informs her understanding of the structural changes impacting the veterinary field today.

Karen first came to AHG as a student—seeking a meaningful path forward after exploring multiple human and animal bereavement programs. She ultimately found her home in AHG’s curriculum, earning its highest credential as a Certified Animal Hospice Practitioner (CAHP). Her professional experience now shapes her leadership style and fuels her commitment to providing grounded, accessible education in the field of animal hospice.

In her current role, Karen leads AHG’s continuing education and certification programs for allied animal care practitioners and veterinary professionals. In addition to supporting foundational curriculum delivery, she personally designed and now facilitates AHG’s Level 2 and Level 3 advanced courses, along with student discussion groups that encourage deeper learning, reflection, and mentorship.

Karen is also co-founder of BrightHaven Caregiver Academy, where she and longtime collaborator Gail Pope support pet parents directly through resources, online education, and personalized guidance. Together, they also co-host the podcast Peace of Mind for Pet Parents, which explores caregiving, quality of life, and emotional healing through the lens of real experience.

A lifelong animal advocate, Karen’s personal experience in breeding and showing purebred cats, dogs, and horses has given her a unique perspective on the entire continuum of pet care — from cradle to grave. This deeply-lived understanding fuels her commitment to ensuring every pet’s final chapter is met with dignity, love, and informed support — and that those who care for them never have to walk that journey alone.

If you’re a prospective student or collaborator, or simply curious about this work, Karen welcomes thoughtful inquiries. You can reach her directly at [email protected].
